Deeper, Richer, Better: The Birth of Kwantz's New Astor Colour Rang

In the production room of Kwantz, a row of Kwantz concrete slabs is on display. Some radiate a deep green glow, others reveal warm red hues. Under the critical eye of the team, each one is evaluated—not only for colour, but also for its resistance to coffee, oil, and water. The result of this meticulous work? The brand-new Astor colour range—a collection that blends colour intensity with functionality, like only Kwantz can.

A Name with Meaning

“When you create something you’re truly proud of, you want the name to reflect that,” says Jeroen Dils, founder of Kwantz. The new line,  named after Jeroen’s eldest son, perfectly embodies what Kwantz stands for: colourful, playful, and full of life. It also reinforces the family values and personal craftsmanship at the heart of the brand.

“At Kwantz, we’re always striving for better. We want to offer our slabs in their finest form to our end customers,” Jeroen explains. “With this new colour range, we aimed to create a deeper and more intense palette that truly resonates.”

From Idea to Reality: A Six-Month Journey

The development of the Astor range wasn’t a matter of days but a careful process that took about half a year. “We always start small,” says Steffi Dils, who co-leads the family business with her brother. “We first create small samples and test various colour-enhancing products. We assess both the colour and the ease of application.”

The team took no shortcuts. The base was the existing OSLO range, but the goal was to take it to the next level. “Sometimes we even adjust our concrete composition to get the colour just right,” Jeroen adds. “Only then do we move on to full-size tests. We produce several slabs in each colour and check their consistency thoroughly.”

The Pursuit of Perfection

Anyone who thinks creating a new colour range is just about adding pigment is mistaken. The team contacted various suppliers and got to work with a clear goal: to experiment with colour-enhancing stain protection.

“We pour concrete test slabs in different colours and let them age to the desired maturity,” Jeroen explains. “Then we apply the colour-enhancing stain protection. But we don’t just look at the colour. Each product is also evaluated for its resistance to water, oil, and coffee.”

The outcome? The product that delivered the most intense colour also offered excellent stain resistance. “It’s a stain protection you don’t have to reapply frequently,” Steffi says enthusiastically. “Functionality and aesthetics go hand in hand for us.”

Challenges Overcome Through Innovation

The road to the perfect colour range wasn’t without challenges. “Both the slab itself and the stain protection are subject to chemical processes,” Jeroen explains. “This means that ambient temperature plays a crucial role in the final result.”

To tackle this, Kwantz made a significant investment. “We fully climate-controlled the production space using two heat pumps powered by solar panels,” Steffi proudly shares. “This way, we ensure consistent quality in a sustainable way.”

Aligned with the Latest Trends

The new Astor range is not an isolated innovation but fits perfectly within current design and art trends. “The new palette features many earthy tones,” Jeroen notes. “This aligns with the colour trend for 2025.”

“Green is also here to stay,” Steffi adds. “It’s a colour that’s increasingly present in modern interiors. Thanks to our specific polishing process, we also maintain a semi-matte finish—something that remains very popular in Belgium and Western Europe.”

From Kitchen to Bathroom: Endless Possibilities

The applications of the new Astor range are as versatile as the material itself. “Everything that’s possible with natural stone is also possible with Kwantz concrete,” Jeroen emphasizes. “Kitchen and bathroom countertops, shower and bath cladding, stair coverings, window sills... the possibilities are endless.”

The new colour range is for anyone who loves natural materials and colour in their home. “Our Kwantz slabs are for those who won’t settle for standard and are looking for personality and character in their interior,” Steffi explains.

More Than Just Colour

What truly sets Kwantz’s new Astor range apart is that it’s not just about the colours—it’s about the full package. The colour-enhancing technology doesn’t just provide a deep, rich tone; it also protects against stains.
